In case you hadn't heard, following much speculation over the past few weeks, Disney has announced a deal to buy Pixar, the animation studio led by Steve Jobs in a $7.4 billion deal.
The deal makes Steve Jobs a board member at Disney and the largest individual shareholder, and makes John Lasseter the Chief Creative Officer for the combined animation studios.
I think this is a great move on Disney's part. Pixar has shown they know how to make very entertaining movies that people love (every one of their movies has grossed over $350 million worldwide, and Finding Nemo grossed a whopping $865 million worldwide), and with the current distribution deal between Pixar and Disney over, the thought of Pixar partening with another distributor would have been disasterous to Disney. I think a combining of the companies was definitely in Disney's best interest, and I'm eagerly looking forward to Disney's future animated movies.
